Detailed text by Warren Cheney
Poetry by Harry Dix
First published in 1890, Yosemite, Illustrated in Colors was the earliest "coffee table" book illustrating the scenic wonders of Yosemite. The book was a product of its era, when Yosemite Valley had been accessible by stagecoach for less than twenty years, and only forty years had passed since the first lithographs of Yosemite had been published. It achieved a remarkable level of quality for its time, with twelve full-color chromolithographs made from specially commissioned watercolor and oil paintings of the Valley. The original detailed text by Warren Cheney accompanying the plates is augmented by poetry by Harry Dix, written in the late-Victorian romantic style.
This new edition of Yosemite, illustrated in Colors, faithfully reproduces the original plates and text and includes additional early graphics of Yosemite and the 1864 and 1890 Congressional acts that established the boundaries of Yosemite National Park.
