The Murders in the Rue Morgue. Facsimile of the MS [Manuscript] in the Drexel Institute by Poe, Edgar Allan
"During the preparation of this edition of the works of Edgar Allan Poe, edited by Dr. Ingram, the publisher suggested to the late Mr. George W. Childs that a facsimile of the manuscript of The Murders in the Rue Morgue would be an acceptable treasure to the fellow countrymen and other readers of this original and unequaled author; gratified at this opportunity to share his fortune with the world, the generous and large-hearted man at once consented.
Before the edition was ready for publication, Mr. Childs preceded the reader but willed to the Drexel Institute —conceived and endowed by an American Abou Ben Adhem — this MS. and other literary monuments.
The Board of Trustees of the Drexel Institute graciously fulfilled the promise and intent of the donor, and the publisher gladly avails himself of this permanent medium of recording his gratitude." -- Preface
Book Condition: Good | Dust Jacket: No Jacket
The boards are thinly designed and bound in gray cloth. The spine has the original publisher's paper label with the title. The boards have soiling, shelf-wear, and bumping on the fore-edge. There is ghosting on the lower board corner. The text block is clean and unmarked. A beautiful ten-hole stitch secures the binding.
