In selecting the illustrations for a holiday edition of this favorite work, the publishers have confined the choice entirely to works of art, and have included reproductions of Michael Angelo's most famous statues and paintings, together with works by other celebrated Italian artists; the great range of the biography - which embraces nearly a century of Italian history - affording a wide field.

The publishers desire to acknowledge the courtesy of The William Hayes Fogg Art Museum, of Harvard University, in granting permission to copy from their collection of photographs of the originals made by Messrs. Braun, Clément, and Company, of Paris.

The photogravure plates have been specially made for this edition by Messes. A. W. Elson and Company.

Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket: Very Good. The jackets are rubbed with slight tears, and the inner panels have foxing. The boards are maroon and clothed with elaborate gilt decorations. The boards have a minor rubbing from the jacket and some rubbing on the bottom edges. The spine has a hint of rubbing as well. The text blocks are tanned, and the fore-edge is slightly bumped on the second volume. The inner text block has a few pages that are not precut (seemed together on the fore edge). Otherwise, the pages are unmarked, and the binding is secure.
